20.句子結(jié)構(gòu)的省略

英語句子的某些成分在一定的情況下可以省略，如祈使句省略主語，比較從句省略謂語、賓語等。這里著重歸納并列句和復合句中的省略。

(1)并列句中的省略

一般說來，第二個并列從句中與第一個并列從句相同的成分通常都可省略。

My sister likes music and I(like)painting.(省略謂語)

People there will go sailing in summer and (they will go) skiing in winter.(省略主語、謂語)

He won an Oscar Award(奧斯卡獎)in 1976 and his wife (won an Oscar Award) in 1977.(省略謂語、賓語)

(2)復合句中的省略

省略如果出現(xiàn)在主句，則多出現(xiàn)在句首。

(It is) No wonder she speaks such good Chinese.

(You’d) Better stay where you are.

(It’s a ) Pity I can’t go with you.

復合句中的省略多出現(xiàn)在狀語從句中。

I’m happy as long as you are(happy).

You’ll have to wash the dishes today because I won’t (wash the dishes).

If (it is) necessary,I can explain this to him.

(3)復合句中若有兩個以上的賓語從句，則從第二個賓語從句開始that不能省略。

He told me (that) he enjoyed the concert very much and that he would like to meet the conductor.

Everybody can see (that) this is an important issue and that they cannot afford to overlook it.

(4)縮略狀語從句

如果主句和從句的主語一致，狀語從句可以省略主語以及謂語的一部分。

When I finished,he waited as if (he was/were) expecting more.

While (he was) recovering from his operation,David renewed an old interest in stockcar racing.

When (they are) ripe, the tomatoes taste delicious.
